Scott you are addressing the right group.  To answer your
question, I don't know where on the Internet you could
go to locate ad expenditures by category.
The dominant company that tracks ad spending is
Competitve Media Reporting (CMR).  It's expensive to
buy, but I've found some (not too dated) CMR info in
business libraries and Univesity libraries.
