PI stands for "Per Inquiry". Commonly used in broadcast and cable TV, you pay for the commercial time based on responses to a 1-800 number. The cost you pay is a percentage of the item cost you are selling, or an agreed upon amount to the station or network. ie: you are selling a product for $25.00, and for every response call you receive, you pay the station $8.00 per inquiry. Very few broadcast stations accept PI's anymore, as well as the better viewed cable networks. They do, however, give a decent rate for direct response ads; you pay for every commercial, but the rate is reduced because the inventory you get is based on un-sold avails or local break blocks that are not seen over the entire network. Hope this helps. The same concept works for other media as well. Donna Lukenbill Media Savvy, Inc.
