A banner advertisement on the web without a web
site...

.....is about as effective as a 5-second car commercial
airing during an episode of Scooby-Doo. If placed on
the right web site, a banner linking to an email
address may get the impressions you're looking for,
but doesn't provide prospects with the information
they need in order to make an informed purchasing
decision. In a nutshell, a banner ad linked to a
"mailto:contact_address@an.isp.com" says to the
average net-savvy consumer "Whoever this is, they
don't have enough money to pay for a real web site".

You might be hard-pressed to find any valid stats on
the effectiveness of banner-to-email-link promotion
beyond someone who may have tried it from an academic
standpoint. You're almost better off saving your money
for buying the banner space AFTER you've built a web
site to go with it.

Good luck with it. Take care.
