Dave;

You're right, that personal attacks are not permitted on
this list, but I "heard" an attack on a *post*, which is the
nature of lists. And the post attacked was a spam, which is
not acceptable anywhere.

The *attack* was also on MLM, also fair. Playing semantic
games like "network" marketing does not legitimize a
business. If 35,000 people are victims of MLM schemes
weekly, that does not legitimize them. If 75% of the US buys
MLM products that is no more justification than saying 75%
of everyone has been a crime victim- I'm not equating MLM
with crime, merely pointing out that numbers do not equal
legitimacy.

I wonder how many of the 35,000 are the same week to week,
the type who look for the easy money promise of MLM.

I also wonder how many of the 75% have bought from the
fairly legit "MLM" like Tupperware/Avon/Mary K versus the
pyramid schemes.

On another list recently, someone made the key
distinguishing point between legit and bad MLM:

Legit has a limited "downline", perhaps 4 levels:
manufacturer-distributor-sales manager-salesperson, and
focuses on selling product.

The bad have an infinite downline, and focus on recruiting
the downline, (to which they then sell, rather than selling
product itself.

Abby
