2a OTHER RELEVANT COMMANDS ON THIS LISTSERVER

        SET mktseg DIGEST
        - To set Digest mode for your subscription. The
        digest
mode will send you a digest of the list once per

          are received.

or MAIL to reset to normal mail mode.

          headers intact.

        e-mail
          at this site.

        postmaster@mail.telmar.com.

        FAQ
To get a copy of this FAQ, send the message
        "SEND MKTSEG.FAQ" to LISTSERV@mail.telmar.com

3 POSTING A MESSAGE TO THE LIST

To POST A MESSAGE to the list, send it to
        mktseg@mail.telmar.com

All messages to this address AUTOMATICALLY go to the
        entire list.

Posts that refer to earlier messages should quote
enough of the relevant material to aid
understanding, but not the entire message, which
would "clutter" the list. Ideally, the format is:

Joe Schmoe wrote >"xxxxx xx", or xyz123@qqq.com
        wrote >"zz zzz"

Remember, mktseg@mail.telmar.com is the list address
        where you post messages.

        Housekeeping commands should go to
        listserv@mail.telmar.com.

        Problems with posting/subscribing/unsubscribing
should be addressed to awool@unix.asb.com or the
above phone/fax numbers, not to the list.

4 MKTSEG MISSION STATEMENT

"Mission statement" sounds too portentious, of
course. The purpose of the list is to allow and
encourage an exchange of ideas and information
relating to advertising and marketing to target
        segments.

These include but are not limited to ethnic
segments, lifestyle and lifestage segments and
        interest group segments, initially.

Topics might include advertising creative material,
media issues, research, data base marketing, direct
response, promotions or education relating to all
the above, and other segmentation information
        resources.

We hope to see as much experiential, anecdotal
material as we do highly technical marketing
discussion. What "works" hasn't always been
measurable, and what's measurable doesn't always
        work.

Openness and honest opinions, problems and
solutions, bad experiences and good, discoveries and
learneing experiences that might be of interest to
colleagues are the essence of what makes discussions
        like this valuable and interesting.

The list is not intended to be a forum for social
change or enforcement of political correctness. It
is a discussion among professionals whose interests
lie in issues relating to ethnic and lifestyle
groups which in some contexts can be sensitive, but
in this list are business or scholarly issues.

The mood of the list will be informal, friendly and
        professional.

5 ADS, JOBS, RESUMES

ADVERTISEMENTS of products or services directly
related to market segmentation are acceptable if
"AD" is the first word of the "Subject" line.

"Directly related" means, for example, that ads for
computer software to manage segmentation anaysis are
OK, but not ads for computer hardware.

JOB POSTINGS are acceptable if you or your
organization are doing the hiring and the job is in
        segmented marketing.

RESUMES may be posted if RESUME is the subject line,
and the person's background is appropriate to work
        in our topical area.

6 ARCHIVES

The archive of MKTSEG is maintained as a "forum" in forums

 the Market Segmentation Forum.

7 CONTROL OF CONTENT

The list will be unmoderated, relying on one and all
to keep focused on relevant topics and to show
        reasonable respect for fellow participants.

Mktseg has been established after an informal survey
of current (as of May 1995) internet general
        marketing and advertising discussion lists.

There were positive reponses from advertising,
research, marketing, academic, media and other
business arenas representing the scope of
        African-American, Asian-American, Latino and various
lifestyle and age segment professionals. Over time,
no doubt others will join. By the nature of such
groups, opinions are exchanged and may be disputed
and defended vigorously. Personal attacks are just
plain not nice, but if you can't help yourself,
please keep it private and off the list.

There are many internet sites and published guides
        to "netiquette".

        It's everyone's list; enjoy!

Abby
