Jim,

You got two good answers, but you also ask if the advent of new technology
causes this sort of response. I think that is near the issue.

We get requests like this weekly. We routinely do not hear them. This is not
because we do not want to be polite, but because we do not 
  1 - Know the people asking
  2 - Think that they know what is important to us.

So, if you called me I would be polite but unless you knew what our strategic
directions are, you would get no where. Please do not take this personally,
but it is the truth.

Solutions? Get known very well! Or, understand your target better. To
paraphrase someone else, care not what you offer, care only what they need.
